This is All About Clothes, a podcast where I’ll be building your fashion vocabulary one word at a time. Today’s word is “varsity jacket."(棒球服) Listen and repeat after me: “varsity jacket." “Varsity jacket." What is a varsity jacket? The varsity began at American universities. Students wore varsity jackets to show they belonged to one of their school’s sports teams. It was like belonging to a special club. In American culture, student athletes are often seen as the cool kids in school. So a varsity jacket has an elite, preppy feeling as well.（棒球服有种大气的学院风） Also, because it began on American colleges, the varsity jacket has a young and sporty feel. （棒球服有种年轻和运动感） There are two kinds of varsity jackets. The classic varsity jacket has leather sleeves and a wool body. Sometimes they also have a large letter on the front.(经典的棒球服是羊毛的，袖子是皮质的，前面有个大字母) I like this kind. It is casual, but the wool and leather give it a dressy vibe（考究的感觉）. It’s good for colder weather, too. The other kind of varsity jacket is made out of satin or nylon.（另一种棒球服是缎面或尼龙材质的。） This kind of varsity jacket became popular in the 1980 and 1990s by American rap artists（说唱歌手）. Once rap artists started wearing varsity jackets, the style became cooler and less elite. Both are cool. My favorite kind varsity jacket is all-black, with wool and leather, and no letter on the front. The style simple, dressy, and cool. Goes well with black jeans. Question: Do you own a varsity jacket?
