That’s right, rooster - NOT chicken! 为什么今年是the year of the rooster 而不是 the year of the chicken 呢？ That’s what we’re going to talk about today ▼ There’s a very big difference between chicken and rooster. A rooster is a male chicken with beautiful feathers, especially on its tail, and a large red comb on its head Rooster 是有非常美丽的羽毛，头上有一个大红冠的公鸡 ▼ What about a chicken then? Well, a chicken is a lot more ordinary. Usually we call the egg-laying animals chickens - the more formal word is hen Chicken 是比较普通的鸡，一般指的是会下蛋的母鸡，更正式说法是 hen ▼ So if we look at the traditional drawings of the twelve Chinese zodiacs, we’ll see that the animal in question is in fact a rooster, not an egg-laying chicken! 当我们看一看传统十二生肖的图片的时候，我们会看到鸡年的鸡确实是公鸡，而不是下蛋的母鸡! ▼ And why don’t we just say: Rooster year?
