The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards is happening this Sunday, Jan. 8. Here are five things we’re looking forward to:
5. An original musical winning — La La Land is one of the favorites to win Best Musical or Comedy. And while musicals like Les Misérables, Dreamgirls, and Sweeney Todd have nabbed Globes in the past, they’ve all been based on Broadway plays. The last truly original musical to win was Yentl in 1984.
4. Red carpet kickoff — The Golden Globes is the first big awards show of 2017, so it’s the first time for stars to show off their dazzling red carpet wear.
3. Jimmy Fallon as host — The Tonight Show host is helming the Golden Globes for the first time. Can he be funnier than his SNL castmates Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (they hosted in 2013, 2014, and 2015)? That’s up for debate, although he’ll probably be more lighthearted than former host Ricky Gervais, who took potshots with gleeful abandon.
2. Stallone’s three daughters — Miss Golden Globe is an honor bestowed on a celebrity’s daughter, who helps with the presentation of the awards. This year, the three Stallone daughters (Sistine, Scarlet, and Sophia) have been chosen.
