The Elephant in the Room

Good evening everyone, welcome to Tian-Tian's Bedtime Stories. I'm Teacher Rasha and for tonight, I will be reading a story called: “The Elephant in the Room” by Sam Wilson from bookdash.org. One morning, Lindi found an elephant in her room. 一天早上林迪在她的房间发现了一只大象。 "Look!" she called. "There's an elephant in my room!" 她大叫一声，看，有一只大象在我的房间里。 "No there isn't," her mother called back. "Elephants don't live in houses. Everybody knows that." 她妈妈回答她，不是吧，大家都知道大象不住在房子里。 The elephant yawned. 大象打了声哈欠。 At breakfast, Lindi's dad asked her to pass the milk. 吃早餐的时候，林迪的爸爸叫她递下牛奶。 "I can't," said Lindi. "The elephant drank it all." 林迪说，她不可以，因为大象把牛奶喝光了。 "There isn't an elephant," said her dad. "Elephants don't live in the city. Everybody knows that." 林迪爸爸说，大象不可能在这边，大家都知道大象不住在城市里。 The elephant burped 大象打了声嗝。 At school, the teacher grumbled, "What's wrong with this chalkboard? It's all wrinkly!" 在学校的时候，老师抱怨道，这黑板怎么了？怎么都褶皱了 "That's not the chalkboard. That's my elephant!" said Lindi. 那不是黑板。那是我的大象，林迪回答道。 "There are no elephants at school," said the teacher. "Everybody knows that." 老师说，大家都知道大象是不会在学校的。 The elephant ate the teacher's sandwiches. 大象把老师的三明治给吃了。 At break-time, the elephant followed Lindi to the playground. He knocked over the swings by mistake. 休息时间，大象跟着林迪来到操场。他不小心把秋千给撞翻了。 "Go away!" said Lindi. "You're not real and you shouldn't be here! Everybody knows that!" 林迪说，你走开，你不是真实的，大家都知道你不应该出现在这里。 The elephant drooped. He walked away, wiping his eyes with his trunk. 大象消沉的走开了，一边擦着他的眼睛和鼻子。 After school, Lindi couldn't see the elephant anywhere. 放学后林迪无论在哪里也找不到大象了。 "Elephant!" she called. "Where are you?" 她喊道，大象，你在哪里啊？ Lindi went home without him. 林迪独自回家了 She felt lonely. 她感到特别的孤单 So she went outside, and sat on the steps and waited. 所以她走到外面，她坐在台阶上，一直等着。 And waited. 一直等到 And waited. 一直等待 And then. . . she saw a trunk. 然后，她看见了一个象鼻 And tusks. 和长牙 And ears. 和耳朵 The elephant was coming down the road! 大象正在路上走下来 She ran up and hugged him. 她跑了过去，拥抱了大象。 "I'm sorry," she said. "I didn't mean it! I know you're real. You're my elephant." 林迪说，我很抱歉，我不是故意的。我知道你真的存在，你是我的大象。 The elephant lifter her up and put her on his back, and she rode down the street. 大象把林迪抬到他的后背，然后她骑着大象走完了一整条街道。 She waved to her neighbors. 她朝她的邻居挥手 "Hello, Mr. Green! Hello, Mrs. Green!" 你好，格林夫妇。 "Look at Lindi!" said Mr. Green "How did she get up there? 格林先生说，看林迪，她怎么会在这 Maybe she grew!" 也许她长大了！ "Don't be silly," said Mrs. Green "Little girls don't grow that high. Everybody knows that 格林夫人说，别犯傻了。大家都知道，小女孩不会长到那么高的。 The elephant took Lindi to the lake, and she slid down his trunk like it was a slide. "Wheeee!" she shrieked. 大象把林迪带到湖边，然后林迪从大象的鼻子上滑了下来就像滑滑梯一样。 林迪尖叫了一声 They played all afternoon, laughing and splashing and spraying each other with water. 他们一整个下午都一起玩耍，他们一边把水泼到彼此身上一边大笑。 That night, the elephant tucked her into bed. 那晚，林迪挤进了自己的被窝。 "Good night , Elephant," said Lindi. "Thank you for a lovely day." 林迪说，晚安大象，谢谢你给我带来了美好的一天。 He patted her head, and curled up to sleep outside her window. 他拍了拍她的头，蜷缩着睡在她的窗口。 "Elephants are the best friends in the world," Lindi said to herself. "Nobody knows that except for me and my elephant." 林迪自言自语的说道，大象是我最好的朋友，除了我们彼此，谁也不会明白。 The End. Good night little ones, sweet dreams! 故事到这边就结束了，大家晚安！
