It is a much misunderstood disease. Having a basic desire to survive, a sick person still wishes for recovering. Although many people think that one's only hope is a direct appeal to God, it seems that God doesn't respond to their requests. Many people die from the Black Death every day.
Standing on a messy street littered with dead bodies, Frosty and I feel so sad. Life is really bitter, and death is a painful human dilemma indeed.
After a moment, I sign and say, "We at present seem to have nowhere to go."
Frosty taps me on the shoulder, attempting to relax me a little.
"We had better stay away from crowded places to avoid catching the disease and keep ourselves safe. I may hide in a valley or run to a mountaintop," I say.
"Now that you mention it, I came across a saleswoman in purple clothes the other day in the market. She had a good supply of high-quality perfumes. I think we may flee this country with her," says Frosty.
"But how?" I become curious.
"Her millionaire businessman husband died and left her a fortune including a ship. The woman is planning a voyage to a different place on the continent, where she's going to settle down and stay away from the disease. It may be a long journey across a dangerous strait where piracy is a major problem. She's hiring sailors. She said I could join her if I met the health requirements," Frosty says.
“Of course, she won't take anyone who may have the disease. I hope the wealthy woman will also consider me. I can be a steward. How much is the fee?” I ask.
"No need to pay fare. There won't be other passengers except the woman and her crew. I know she's checking weather forecasts from a local weatherman, and is about setting sail," Frosty says, turning to me with a look of worry in her eyes.
We run to the sea. The woman's ship is still there, and she is nice enough to take both of us with her.
While Frosty and I are packing a luggage, the crew equips the ship with enough water, food and things for daily needs such as towels, toothpaste and razor-like object. The woman loads everything she owns aboard the ship. She is ready to give up her homeland where she was raised.
"Mouse on the ship!" I jump back when I see a mouse hiding at a corner, almost losing my balance. Frosty reacts quickly, grasping a mop and hitting towards the mouse. The mouse bounces out and disappears inside the ship. It is the same black mouse we saw before. I feel life is really not a coincidence.
"Where are we going?" Frosty asks a sailor. Checking his compass, the lame man says, "We are going to England…"
