Read with You Podcast– I Can Readathon 2016
You are listening to the Read with You podcast. Welcome to Read with You. We are celebrating the success of this year’s I can Readathon China event. Many thanks to the participants and their parents for keeping up with their reading this summer.
Over the last 2 months we have provided analyses and reviews of top recordings. We hope the information we provided has been helpful to those who continue learning English. In the review process, we have identified several common errors.
One such common error occurs with the pronunciation of vowel sounds in English. A particularly difficult distinction is between /iy/ and /ih/, as in the words “sheep” and “ship” or “Pete” and “pit”.
Another difficult sound distinction is between /ai/ and /ah/, as in “smile” and “small”.
A difficult consonant is /th/; many student pronounce it as an /s/, making the word “thing” sound like “sing”.
These are common problems which can be corrected through listening to the correct pronunciation, practicing pronunciation through guided repetition, and continuous reading both on one’s own as well as with a teacher or parent.
At Read with You, we work to improve the following aspects of our students’ English skills:
• Listening – by assigning teacher-made recordings targeting each students’ most difficult sounds
• Speaking – by weaving free talk throughout each lesson in a very natural, comfortable way
• Reading – by assisting students as they work through exciting and challenging books that are individually selected for their particular level
• Writing – by assigning periodic writing assignments on both impromptu as well as pre-determined topics
We recommend every child who is serious about learning English to target 26 books each year and spend at least 15 minutes per day learning English.
Thank you for listening. This program was presented by Read with You. If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it. Sharing your knowledge is a beautiful thing.
