Free Robot Lawyer
British programmer Joshua Browder is helping people save a lot of money on legal fees with his latest project — the world’s first robot lawyer. The 19-year-old boy has developed a free service that allows users to ask any kind of legal question and receive answers from the robot.
Browder first started the project last summer as a free website to help people appeal against unfair parking tickets. He came up with the idea after getting a series of tickets himself for trivial reasons. Having wasted several hours on writing appeals to these tickets, he realized that many people didn’t have the time, legal knowledge or even the energy to appeal. He decided to create a robot to help them, so DoNotPay robot was born.
DoNotPay robot is a huge success. Instead of talking to a human, users can chat to the robot with human emotions powered by artificial intelligence. The robot is available anytime and responds in less than a second. It is also free.
Users can ask questions in their own words as if they were talking to a real lawyer. They can ask for help with Payment Protection Insurance claims, appeal against parking tickets, claim for delayed flights or even ask general legal questions.
“As DoNotPay robot talks to more people, it improves both its conversation and legal skills. My hope is that it will be good enough to replace these expensive lawyers completely,” said Browder, who is studying at Stanford University, California.
