介绍:
为了保护海豚,美国马里兰州国家水族馆宣布,到2020年底将该水族馆的海豚放归大海,并建立国家海豚避难所,确保它们茁壮成长。 Of the eight dolphins at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, only one has ever swum in the sea. The other seven have been spending their life in concrete tanks, on display for visitors, but their fate is about to change. On June 14, 2016, National Aquarium CEO John Racanelli announced a plan to let the dolphins go back to a place of safety in the sea by the end of 2020. “It will be the nation’s first seaside dolphin shelter,” said Racanelli. “We now know more about dolphins and the care for them, and we believe that the National Aquarium is uniquely positioned to use that knowledge to create positive changes,” Racanelli said. “This is the right time to move forward with the dolphin shelter.” The shelter will be designed to reflect the dolphin’s natural habitat. It will likely be placed in a temperate climate. In addition to a full-time staff, there will be isolation pools where dolphins can receive medical care when necessary. “We have learned a lot about how to take care of the dolphins, and about how to ensure that they grow well,” said Racanelli. In response to protests of live animal shows, officials at the National Aquarium had considered a number of options for the dolphins. They thought about improving the tanks or moving the dolphins to other institutions. But in the end, they take a large step, giving the marine mammals a chance to live in the sea while still being protected and cared for.
