To encourage the students whose parents can’t afford school fees to get education, a school in India is asking the parents to simply plant a tree instead of paying school fees.
The parents have to take care of the small tree and plant a new one if it dies. Compared to the cost of traditional school fees, it is a small price to pay. And by doing so, it will help improve the local air quality.
In India, the parents have to pay for high school fees, as well as paying for books and school supplies. But by offering an affordable way to get the students into schools, the school is encouraging education for everyone. The initiative was set up by a group of the local professionals and business owners in response to India’s increasing education fees.
The school has opened in the village for the students who have no money to pay school fees. The students are being taught in English. So far, 700 trees have been planted across the village over the last year. And it won’t hurt, because air pollution becomes a serious problem in many parts of India.
While a few trees aren’t going to solve that problem any time sooner, making families plant and take care of a tree is a way to encourage positive air-purifying action, as well as helping educate the next generation.
