A three-meter-tall reading pavilion has become one of the most popular places for people in many big cities in China. People line up in long queues for a unique experience inside the pavilion.
It was inspired by the TV show, The Reader. To inspire people’s love for literature, The Reader invites people from all walks of life to read aloud their favorite poems, essays and books, or even personal letters they wrote to their loved ones.
Now, more pavilions have been found in more cities after first appearing in Beijing.
What’s so amazing about the little room inside the pavilion?
It is equipped with professional recording devices and cameras, which is aimed at inviting more people to show their talent for reading beautiful literature, and they can record their reading. The best readers will have a chance to appear on the CCTV program.
Many beautiful lines and poems among China’s literature have been brought up by these book-lovers, including Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again by Xu Zhimo, A Blooming Tree by Xi Murong and For the Future of You by Yu Guangzhong.
“It’s totally okay if it doesn’t make me step onto the stage of CCTV,” said a citizen in line. “I’m here just to read.”
Reading is an ability that’s rooted deeply in the heart of everyone. The reading pavilion has awakened people’s hidden passion for literature.
