If the thought of sipping strawberry wine makes your mouth water, the Strawberry Festival will be the place for you. Nearly 30,000 strawberry lovers head to the small town of Long Grove, Illinois each year in mid-June to celebrate the strawberry-growing heritage of the area. The three-day festival includes strawberry-themed activities, contests and live music, which are sure to keep you delighted.
You can enjoy various strawberry dishes and drinks for free. Fresh strawberries are available as well. For families with children, the festival offers various kids carnival rides, face painting and pony rides to get the little ones to be happy.
Children of all ages are welcome to take part in a 1.25-mile race. Top winners will receive special gifts, and other kids receive a participation award each.
Another event is the Little Miss Strawberry Queen for everyone from babies to young adults. Girls are encouraged to dress in the strawberry-themed clothes. Winners will receive trophies and crowns.
The strawberry pie-eating contest is a don’t-miss event that occurs twice during the festival. You must keep your hands behind your back and eat every last piece of pie to win this tasty contest.
Of course, the tasty carnival has its own music! There is live music all day long, including rock, jazz, folk, blues and R&B.
