This robot has published the poetry collection. It is the first-ever book written by a robot in human history.
The robot, named Xiaoice or Little Ice, wrote more than 10,000 poems in 2,760 hours. Of those, 139 were selected for the collection, Sunshine Misses Windows. The book has 10 chapters, each showing a human emotion such as loneliness, happiness or joy.
Xiaoice studied all the modern poems of some 519 poets dating as far back as the 1920s. For a human writer to go through such preparation and study, it would take about 100 years. Every time she saw a picture, she got inspired and created modern poems.
Xiaoice may lag behind in some ways, the same as any inexperienced poet. Some poems may even sound repetitive. However, she wants her readers to read the 100% true AI works.
Xiaoice writes with a unique style and word choice. She is extremely creative, and her continued study of famous poets’ poetry is an essential resource for her own creations.
However, some poets say that a machine cannot replace a human in this field, as it cannot write with the necessary “spirit”. AI poetry is a product of mechanically putting words into a certain order, which lacks true emotions.
