The water bottle is normally made of plastic which will take hundreds of years to degrade. Every year, billions of plastic water bottles are thrown away, polluting land and the sea around the world.
In order to protect the environment, scientists and designers in London have found a possible solution to the problem of plastic bottle waste recently.
The group has made a water bottle people can eat. The product is called Ooho. Unlike plastic bottles, Ooho isn’t tall or hard. It looks more like a bubble, or a small, round and clear ball. It can hold liquid inside. The outside of Ooho is membrane, which is made of seaweed. The membrane is tasteless, and you can eat it. Even if you don’t want to eat it, you can throw it away and it will degrade in about four weeks. The membrane is not only strong, but also good for the environment.
However, Ooho has its limitations. It can’t be refilled. Each bottle is small and it doesn’t store for more than a few days.
Now, only a few thousand Ooho water bottles can be made a day, but scientists are developing new technology that can increase that number to hundreds of thousands.
