A disabled girl asked, “What is going to happen if I walk on the street wearing a skirt and let others see my artificial leg?”
What’s your answer to this question?
A young girl volunteered to answer this question with her story and photos.
Who’s this girl? She is Xie Renci, who is studying law at a university in Chongqing now. Her story has inspired millions of people in China with her optimistic personality and proud display of her artificial leg.
Although Xie lost one leg, she feels perfectly comfortable to show off her artificial right leg.
Xie grew up in a poor family in Guizhou Province. At the age of 4, a traffic accident changed her world completely and took away her right leg and her mother’s left leg. Though they survived the accident, endless challenges were waiting for them.
At one moment, her mother almost gave up and wanted her quitting school, but Xie begged, “I’ll study really hard and make it into Harvard University, so let me continue my studies.” Even though Xie didn’t go to Harvard University, she was admitted into one of the top law schools in China.
“I’m not trying to justify anything or present myself as a role model. All I’m doing is tell people out there, disabled or not, that there is always another way of living your life,” said Xie.
Xie often shares her story and photos on the Internet. She wants to increase people’s awareness of the disabled community. She also wants to make a documentary of herself to tell people that there is no difference between people with disabilities and others.
