Where Has Time Gone is a co-production made by five directors from each of the five BRICS countries.
The movie is in five parts, each by a different director. Chinese director Jia Zhangke’s story is about a couple who want a second child. The Brazilian story shows the aftermath of a dam collapse. The Indian part tells the friendship between an old man and an orphan. The Russian story depicts a couple living in a valley. The one from South African director is set in the future.
“People everywhere often wonder where time has gone,” said Jia. “Directors from the different BRICS countries have explored this topic, each with their own uniqueness.”
Each of the five stories centers on one BRICS country. All five stories end in an old saying or a famous line about time to connect the following one.
It marks the first time in history that five BRICS countries team up on co-producing a movie. The BRICS countries are all rapidly developing and the life of people have similarities. But different cultural backgrounds and history result in different ways of thinking. However, the emotions from all five stories can be shared by anyone in any country.
The co-production is making history by transforming BRICS from a political and economic concept into a cultural one.
