Since Alyssa Carson was a little girl, she wanted to set foot on Mars. Her dream hasn’t stopped while she grew up. Her life’s goal was to become an astronaut and be the first person to visit Mars.
Her first thoughts of visiting Mars came when she was just three years old after she watched a TV show which introduced Mars.
“I thought, ‘This red planet is so cool.’ Then I decided to be one of those astronauts going to Mars one day. I started watching videos about Mars. I have a huge map of Mars in my room, and telescopes to look at space,” said Alyssa.
Alyssa works hard every day and has been studying space since she was seven. She has been to space camps in many places, and she is the first person to attend all NASA space camps. She speaks Chinese, French, Spanish, and some Turkish in addition to her native English.
Alyssa has been elected to be one of the seven ambassadors to land on Mars in 2033, when she could be on the first trip to Mars and spend two or three years to grow food and conduct science experiments while searching for signs of life.
She is now an astronaut trainee and is not able to apply to be an astronaut before she turns 18. “I still have to go to university, and prepare myself for the selection of astronauts who will go to Mars,” said Alyssa.
The 17-year-old girl is also a public speaker. She encourages everyone to work hard and seek their dreams.
