5. Why Does It Rain？

Why Does It Rain? Winnie the Pooh gets up in the morning. He is happy. He wants to go on a picnic. But he can't see the sun. Winnie opens the door. It's rainy. Winnie is sad. "Oh bother!" he says. Winnie eats some honey. Then he goes to see his friend Piglet. Piglet takes a bath in the rain. He sings, "I love the rain!" "I don't love the rain," Winnie says. "I want to have a picnic. Why does it rain?" Piglet and Winnie walk in the Wood. Piglet says, "The rain makes everything nice and clean!" A pretty blue bird says hello. He likes the rain, too. The two friends go to Roo's house. Roo lets the rain touch his tongue. "It tickles!" he laughs. Winnie and Piglet open their mouths. The rain tickles their tongues, too. Kanga opens the window. She says, "Roo, put on your raincoat, please!" Tigger comes. He jumps in the water. He gets Kanga wet. "I love rain!" Tigger laughs. He jumps and splashes. Winnie, Roo, Piglet, and Tigger play games. They jump and run in the rain. They sing and dance. Winnie thinks, "Rain makes things clean. It tickles our tongues. And it's fun!" Soon the friends are tired. "Let's find Rabbit," says Roo. Rabbit stands in his garden. He says, "The rain helps my carrots grow." Piglet asks, "Can rain help me grow?" "No, Piglet," says Rabbit. "The rain can't make you grow. It makes carrots and flowers grow." "That's nice," Winnie says. "But can we have a picnic in the rain? Rabbit says, "Let's talk to Christopher Robin." Christopher Robin plays with a boat. "Do you want to go on a picnic?" asks Winnie. "Picnics are for sunny days," Christopher Robin says. "Let's play games for rainy days." "Great!" everybody says "Christopher Robin," says Winnie, "why does it rain?" "Rain brings water," Christopher Robin says. "Fish need water. Frogs need water. Boats need water. We need water, too. Later, Winnie sits and thinks about his day. "Rain does many things," he says. "It makes things clean. It helps plants grow. It tickles our tongues. It's fun to play in." The sun comes out. Winnie sees a rainbow. The bee flies. The butterfly dances. The bird sings. It is nice and warm. Winnie smiles. "And rain makes me glad for sunny days!"
