6. Why Is the Day All Gray?

Why Is the Day All Gray? It's a cold morning in the Wood. Winnie the Pooh and Roo visit Owl. "Why is the day all gray?" Roo asks. Because there's fog," Owl says. Owl can't fly to his uncle's party. "The fog is too thick and low," he says. "I can't see." "What is fog, anyway?" asks Roo. "Fog is a cloud," Owl says. "It's a cloud that hugs the ground." "Sometimes people hug me too tightly," says Roo. "I gently push them away. Maybe we can push the fog away!" Roo and Winnie push at the fog. But it doesn't move. "Maybe there's less fog somewhere else," Roo says. The three friends look for a sunny spot. The friends see a dark shadow in the fog. Tigger jumps out! "Hello, Owl," says Tigger. "Why aren't you flying today?" "There's too much fog," says Roo. "Can you help us make it go away?" Tigger jumps up and down. He tries to scare the fog away. But the fog doesn't move. When Tigger stops, he's all wet. "There must be water in the fog," he says. The friends decide to go to Piglet's house. But they can't see in the fog. Soon they are lost. Suddenly, Roo hears a strange sound. He jumps into Winnie's arms. "What's that?" he asks. Tigger hears strange sounds, too. He is scared. He hides in some leaves. Winnie doesn't see him. Winnie walks into Tigger! "Where's Owl?" Winnie asks. "I don't know," says Tigger. "Let's look for him." The friends look for Owl. Then they see two eyes in the fog. "There you are," says a voice. It's Owl! "It's less foggy now," says Winnie. "Maybe now we can find Piglet's house." The friends arrive at Piglet's house. He is sweeping outside the door. "Maybe we can sweep the fog away!" Roo says. Piglet only has one broom. But Rabbit has many brooms. Everybody runs to Rabbit's house. "Hello, Rabbit," says Tigger. "Do you have some brooms we can use? We want to sweep the fog away." "That's silly," says Rabbit. "The fog goes away as it gets warm." The weather slowly gets warmer. Roo takes off his scarf. "It seems less foggy," Winnie says. "It's dry now, too," Tigger says. "There's less water in the air." Rabbit is right! Soon the fog is gone. Owl can fly to the party now. "Thank you all for your help," he says. "Goodbye, friends! And goodbye, fog!"
