13. Who's Hiding?

Who's Hiding? One fine day, Rabbit walks through the Wood. He hears Tigger calling. "Hare, hare, hare, are you there?" Tigger calls. He jumps to Rabbit. "I'm looking for a hare," he says. "I don't see any hare," says Rabbit. "We're playing a game," says Tigger. "He hides, and I look for him." "That sounds fun," Rabbit says. "Can I play, too?" Owl sees Rabbit looking for the hare. "Hares are very hard to find," Owl says. "Their brown fur blends in with the Wood. But I can help you." Owl flies high and low over the Wood. But he doesn't see the hare. He lands on a tree covered with flowers. The flowers rise up and fly away! Just then, Kanga and Roo walk by. "Look, Mama!" Roo calls to his mother. "It's a butterfly tree." "The butterflies look like flowers," Owl tells them. "We're looking for the hare," Owl says. "Do you see him?" "No," says Roo. "But I can find him!" Roo opens his eyes wide. He looks closely at the ground. "I see something!" Roo says. "But it's not a hare." Roo lifts his head. There's a grasshopper on his nose. "The grasshopper is green like the grass," Roo says. "He's hard to see." "Why are grasshoppers green?" Roo asks. "So they can hide," says Kanga. "Hiding keeps lots of insects and animals safe. It also helps them hunt for food." "Is that big frog hiding, too?" Roo asks. "What frog?" Kanga asks. "The one sitting by your foot," Roo says. Kanga looks down and jumps back. "Yes, he's hiding, too," Kanga laughs. Winnie the Pooh and Piglet walk up. "Hello," Winnie says. "What are you two doing?" "We're looking for a hare," Kanga says. Winnie and Piglet want to help. "Hares are brown," says Roo. "So we should look where it's brown!" Piglet looks in the mud. But all he finds is a duck. "Trees are brown," says Roo. He looks behind a tree. But all he finds is a small brown bird. "There's a brown log!" Winnie says. "I think I see the hare over there." Everybody runs over to the log. They look all around it. But they don't find anything. Then Roo looks inside. He sees the hare! "Good job, Roo!" says Tigger. "Hares are hard to find. But they can't hide from you!"
