▎作者简介
玛丽·奥利弗（Mary Oliver，1935—），当今美国女诗人，以书写自然著称，与自然有着与生俱来的亲近感,正是这种亲近感成就了她的诗歌。13岁开始写诗，其诗歌曾获得国家图书奖和普利策诗歌奖等多个奖项，代表作品有《在森林中沉睡》《家信》等。

树安静地从属于自然的循环，安然接受自己的处境，坚实地扎根大地，缓慢而努力地生长。在内心，它们潜藏着对万物的爱，在忍耐中保持生命的尊严，又因之焕发出不可磨灭的光彩。当一棵树顺应时间的流逝，沉默度过冬天的萧瑟，在春天如约以郁郁翠华舒展于尘世时，它是幸福的。树缓慢的节奏，它的忍耐、爱、虚空，成就了这种简单的幸福。这恰恰，又是我们所缺乏的。

Can You Imagine?

“For example, what the trees do
not only in lightning storms
or the watery dark of a summer’s night
or under the white nets of winter
but now, and now, and now– whenever
we’re not looking. Surely you can’t imagine
they don’t dance, from the root up, wishing
to travel a little, not cramped so much as wanting
a better view, or more sun, or just as avidly
more shade–surely you can’t imagine they just
stand there loving every
minute of it, the birds or the emptiness, the dark rings
of the years slowly and without a sound
thickening, and nothing different unless the wind,
and then only in its own mood, comes
to visit, surely you can’t imagine
patience, and happiness, like that.”
