Last week, we met a group of overseas students in Chengde, and today, we’ll find out more about their lives and struggles in their new home. Here is our reporter Luo Yu.

Students have to encounter a wide array of obstacles to make their life meaningful in China. From eating to clothing, from language to culture, they are faced with daily struggles and it is life that makes them stronger. ‘The idea of respect is different. As a student, we used to think that if we are late for a class, that does not mean I’m not respecting the teacher. It’s just I’m late. But over here, I realize that for students who were late, it was more like disrespecting the teacher itself.’
Li Shasha, a lecturer with the department of physiology, has been working hard to communicate better with the students and she seems very happy about the students’ performance.

Living and studying abroad might not be that easy for them who are in their early twenties. It is obviously hard to relieve their homesickness. Namukolo was streamed with tears when talking about her family members back home.

‘I miss you a lot and I love you a lot. There are many I can mention them, but I love my mother, my father, my siblings and my relatives. I like them all. I wish they could come here and experience the life here in China, China is beautiful.’
The campus is simply enchanting and is well worth strolling around in. More importantly, they are on a journey in China, fulfilling their dreams to become a doctor through and after their academic adventure. Their love and passion towards their career and the affection they show to the Chinese culture will be an added bonus wherever they are going to be.
