介绍:
In today's OU section, we'll talk about an American man claiming a kingdom in Africa for his princess daughter. Jerimiah Heaton, a father of three from Abingdon Virginia, has claimed an area of land near the Sudanese border as a kingdom for his 7 year old daughter after she expressed her wish to become a princess. Heaton, who ran for Congress out of Virginia's 9th district in 2012 but lost the campaign, had responded to his daughter's wish by searching online for unclaimed land and found a desolate territory which lay between Egypt and Sudan. The 800 square mile of desert is known to the locals as Bir Tawil, however it has been renamed by the Heaton family as "The Kingdom of North Sudan". On his daughter's birthday, Heaton traveled through the desert and planted a flag designed by his children on top of a rocky hill. He explained that his actions in claiming the land are viable as this method has been applied historically to countries claimed in a similar manner. Serious about gaining political control of the land, Heaton has reached out to the African Union for assistance. (JA) Beckett1513 from Washingtonpost.com comments Great, give children whatever they want no matter how stupid and we call it "making their dreams come through". No different than when parents get their teenage daughters plastic surgery to "make their dreams come true". Disgusting story (QD) Anna from people.com comments Most (not all) little girls dream of becoming a princess, but to take land that has been fought over for years, claim, and then rename it is just plain selfish in my opinion. What if it was a territory that had caused years of bloodshed? (FA) Sarah from people.com comments Such a sweet story, what a thoughtful dad. I can only imagine the look on the little girl's face when he told her she'd be a princess. Even if they don't even up keeping the land or doing anything with it; she'll always remember that. I do think its a great idea though about growing food there for the people to have enough food, in the area. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: - Heaton received permission from the Egyptian government to explore the territory - His future plan for his kingdom is to turn it into an agricultural production and establish a good relationship with Egypt and Sudan. - Jerimiah Heaton ran for Congress out of Virginia's 9th District in 2012 and lost - a border dispute between Sudan and Egypt left the land, about halfway between where the Nile River crosses into Sudan and Egypt's coast along the Red Sea, as unclaimed territory. - Princess Emily, who sleeps in a custom-made castle bed, is showing signs of being a generous ruler, and said that she wants to ensure children in the region have enough food (telegraph.co.uk) - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (JA)supafly from washingtonpost.com says This guy is constantly doing things like this -- last time, he ran an ill-considered political campaign that had no chance of success -- just to grab media attention. Now he's using his daughter as a pawn in his attention-grabbing stunts. That makes him less a candidate for "father of the year", and more of an attention-seeker (QD)Ibrahim Ashraf from independent.co.uk says I like the story of him and his daughter, but I don't think that neither the Egyptian nor the Sudanese authorities would allow this (FA) rollingintheshallow from jezebel.com says An interesting legal aside is that if the father and daughter do manage to get recognized as legitimate monarchs of a territory with legal status they might be unintentionally renouncing their US citizenship.
