Hello, welcome to Education Today, brought to you from our studio here in Beijing.
I'm Luo Yu, sitting in for Wu You. And joining me in the studio is Farrah.
Coming up, education news from home and abroad.
First up in China, cities in the eastern part of the country promote Confucian lectures in villages.
A widespread effort that will see hundreds of villages receive lessons on the philosophy of Confucius has begun in the philosopher's hometown of Qufu.
Shandong Province in east China has begun training lecturers on the philosophy and will task them with traveling to 405 villages, teaching one lesson a month.
The move aims to popularize the knowledge of Confucianism, improve the quality of villagers, and create a harmonious environment according to the local authority.
The lectures will be given in the courtyard of village committees or in village squares.
The lecturers will be focusing on specific cases so as to make the theories more comprehendible. Villagers will be taught the core values of Confucianism.
Qufu is currently recruiting lecturers who, after a selection process, will be trained before taking their teachings on the road.
A villager surnamed Kong in the Zhouzhuang village of Nishan Township, where Confucius was born more than 2,500 years ago, said, "Generation upon generation we live in here, and we shall not forget the admonishment of our ancestors."
A Confucian library will also be built and put on a new play about Confucianism in each village.
The leading university launched a so-called smarthouse at its Jiangwan campus today to make life more convenient for students.
The smarthouse includes ATM machines, a supermarket and a package pick-up center.
A student survey found that ATMs were the most desired facility in the campus, which opened in 2008.
The survey also showed 92 percent of respondents wanted a package pick-up center so they could pick up their deliveries after class.
Machines selling tickets for performances, a cellphone recharging service and a gift shop were among other facilities added to the smarthouse, which has created part-time jobs for more than 200 students.
