An attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem has left five dead.
US Secretary of State John Kerry.
"This violence has no place anywhere. So the Palestinian leadership must condemn this and they must begin to take serious steps to restrain any kind of incitement that comes from their language, from other people's language, and exhibit the kind of leadership that is necessary to put this region on a different path."
U.S. President Barack Obama also urged both Palestinians and Israelis to work cooperatively together to lower tensions, reject violence, and seek a path forward towards peace.
"The United States wants to work with all parties involved to make that a reality and to isolate the kinds of extremists that are bringing about this terrible carnage. "
FBI agents will join the investigation in Jerusalem.
