(19) 定公問: “君使臣，臣事君，如之何？“孔子對曰：“君使臣以禮，臣事君以忠。“
The Emperor Ding asked, ”When an emperor rules his civil servants, and the civil servants serve for their emperor, are there any principles?” The Master Confucius replied, “The emperor rules his civil servants according to the rules of propriety;
and the civil servants serve the emperor with faithfulness.”
(26) 子曰：“居上不寬，為禮不敬，臨喪不哀，吾何以觀之哉？”
The Master Confucius said, “If someone is lack of the generosity as a superior, the reverence when attending ceremonies, and the sorrow when mourning, how can I observe such a person?”
