The University of California in Los Angeles has become the most popular four-year-university in the United States, as more than 110,000 prospective students have applied for admission for the fall semester this year.
The university has received almost 93,000 freshman applications and 20,000 transfer applications.
The number is 7 percent higher than last year, and with more diverse geographic, ethnic and racial backgrounds.
School officials say the robust increase in the diversity of applicants is the result of its concerted efforts to reach out to rural and underserved communities.
To evaluate applicants, the University of California in Los Angeles uses a comprehensive, holistic review process that ensures a thorough review of each application and takes into account the context of each applicant's educational and personal experiences.
