Australian education officials say with the expansion of the New Colombo Plan, China may probably overtake the United States in around a year or two.
The plan was piloted last year, with 40 scholars and more than 1,300 students being sent to live, study and undertake internships in four locations: China’s Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore.
