For example, For the first time in 30 years, we've got events taking place before the opening ceremony, as twelve medal events have been added to the program since the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The introduction of those events lead to a busier schedule and the necessity to spread things out so athletes can rest and courses can be clear for other disciplines. The 12 new events included snowboard slopestyle, which saw team USA pocketing the first gold medal of the Sochi Games. Also, one of the 12 new medal events is figure skating's team event, which saw Russia grabbing its first gold medal. ***************************** Today is also the first day of curling games, Chinese men's team is facing Denmark in the first round, and the game has just started half an hour ago. and the Chinese women's team will play against team Canada later this afternoon.
