介绍:
Tents have been covered with heavy frost across Tagong Town, the epicenter of the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck on Saturday. As the first batch of relief materials, including 300 tents, arrived in the worst-affected area last night. Jiang Cuo, director of Kangding's civil affair bureau says they need more warm tents. "These quilts are very thick and warm, and the tents with an inner-layer can also keep us warm. What we need most now are tents, and the provincial and autonomous prefecture authorities are sending them to us." Zhu Wanling, a CRI reporter in the quake zone, says more tents are on the way. "The temperature is very low, especially at night; it could drop to minus ten degrees Celsius. Even during the day time, it could snow in the afternoon and the temperature might drop to below zero. To address the problem, authorities have already dispatched 3000 tents to the quake zone. By this afternoon, another 18 trucks of cotton-made tents will reach the epicenter." The quake has damaged 25,000 houses, affecting nearly 80-thousand people and forcing more than six thousand to relocate. Five people were killed and 55 others injured. Among the injured, 19 are primary school students who suffered minor injuries in a stampede. Zhu Wangling says the school is now closed and most of the students are heading home. "The school has about 2000 students and teachers. The earthquake damaged the dormitory, so the students were staying in tents after the earthquake. Starting from today, most of the students will be going home and the school will be closed." All search and rescue operations have been completed, with all the dead and injured believed to be accounted for. Water, power and telecommunications services are also fully operational in the county. Local authorities say the priority is now to relocate affected residents and assess damages. The finance ministry has announced that the central government has budgeted an emergency relief fund of 50 million yuan for those affected by the earthquake. The money will be used for emergency evacuation and settlement initiatives. For CRI, I'm Wang Menzhen.
