Wang Guoqing made the remarks on the eve of the opening of the annual session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He called China's 6.9-percent growth in 2015 "outstanding" compared with the performance of international economies, adding the Chinese economy is expanding with good quality. Wang has noted that the fundamentals of China's economy remain sound and China is seeing good momentum in its structural reforms. He also said the economic data in January showed positive signs. Militant attacks in Laos have left one Chinese national dead and three others injured. Chinese consulate officials say the attack by unknown militants targeted a Chinese-invested company in Luang Prabang province in northern Laos. Another attack occurred in the same area which targeted a passing bus, leaving three Lao nationals hurt. After the attacks, the local government sent troops to wipe out the militants. The 10th confirmed case of the Zika virus has been detected in China. The father of two previously confirmed Zika patients in Guangdong has also been confirmed with the virus. The 40-year-old returned from Venezuela with his family in late February. He went to hospital after coming down with a rash on Monday. He, along with the other confirmed cases of Zika in China, are in no immediate danger. Chinese authorities are being kept on alert as the warming weather may allow for the spread of the mosquito-borne virus. The polling date for a new Hong Kong Legislative Council has been set for Sept. 4, 2016. A government spokesman says the nomination period for the LegCo election is scheduled in the latter half of July. It will be the sixth Legislative Council since the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was founded on July 1, 1997. The regional legislature has 70 members. Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump have each won the most states on the biggest day of the race for the US presidential nominations. Trump has so far won seven states, compared with only two taken by his closest rival, Ted Cruz, and one by Marco Rubio. Clinton has also won seven states plus the South Pacific territory of American Samoa. Democrat Bernie Sanders had wins in four states. Super Tuesday saw 11 states voting on the biggest single day ahead of the November 8 presidential election. North Korea says it will no longer take part in UN Human Rights Council session examining its rights record. Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong has accused the council of "politicization, selectivity and double standards" and of "singling out" North Korea for criticism. The UN council has repeatedly criticized North Korea over its treatment of its citizens. In New York, the UN Security Council is set to vote on Wednesday on new sanctions on Pyongyang in response to its recent test of a nuclear weapon and its launching of a satellite. Both moves have contravened existing sanctions. Unknown militants have launched an attack on the Indian consulate in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the assault and no fatalities were immediately reported. The area, also home to other diplomatic missions, has repeatedly come under attack in recent months. In January, Islamic State jihadists claimed responsibility for a deadly gun and bomb siege targeting the nearby Pakistani consulate. The latest attack comes as direct peace talks are expected to start this week between the Afghan government and the Taliban. The European Union is planning to spend hundreds of millions of euros on humanitarian aid to deal with the migrant crisis. The plan to be submitted by the European Commission means EU aid agencies would for the first time work directly with the UN and other groups inside Europe, rather than dispersing money to individual member states. EU officials say the aid plan would allocate 300 million euros this year to help any EU state deal with the migration crisis. In all, 700 million euros will be made available over three years. An Airbus A380 from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates has touched down in Auckland, New Zealand, completing what is believed to be the world's longest non-stop scheduled commercial flight. The inaugural Dubai-Auckland flight was made by an A380 but the regular service will be carried out using the Boeing 777.
