Big-budget 3D animation 'Beast of Burden' has been chosen as the first official feature film, to be co-produced between China and New Zealand.
This is the first of 17 proposed film collaborations between New Zealand's Huhu Studios and China Film Animation.
Variety reports the film will portray mythical beasts called Thoriphants, who “rebel against their lives of slavery to mankind and embark on a treacherous journey”.
Set in China and the United States, the film is written and directed by Kirby Atkins, with Chinese co-writer Ge Jing, and co-director Huang Jun.
Production of 'Beast of Burden' is now getting underway, and its official start will be launched during this year's Beijing International Film Festival.
Auckland-based Huhu is a group of creative and training centers specializing in 2D and 3D animation formats, with additional studios in Taipei and Beijing.
'Best of Burden' is scheduled to be released in December 2017.
