The 150-year-old Vienna State Opera House has launched an online broadcast program in China. Chinese viewers can now watch a selection of 45 live performances through the Internet.
Performances will be available for 72 hours after they are staged.
Christopher Widauer, head of the program, said they installed nine high-definition cameras in the opera house, which offers more than just the performance to the users.
"We give them a lot of editorial extra content, like backstage views, like interview with the artists, like portraits of the big opera stars, and introduction to the operas, so at home you switch on your TV set, and you select your program, and you have half an hour of a pre-program, and during the interval we give a lot of interesting materials."
The program is now open to users.
The program is supported by the Austrian Consul General in Shanghai.
