At this year's Berlin Film Festival, the crime drama "Mr. Holmes" is a whole new spin on Sherlock.
In this faux-biopic, veteran actor Ian McKellen transforms into a 93-year-old Sherlock Holmes.
"I get to play the real - the Sherlock Holmes that everybody knows, solving the case in Baker Street and then many, many years later looking back on himself as a rather different Sherlock Holmes."
The 75-year old British star jokes that the ageing make up process he went through for the film was "a bit alarming, because it didn't take long to do."
"I've got a hat on I was sort of hunch backed like that and they took this very, very good photograph, so good that The Times newspaper in London put it, quite big, on the front page. Well anybody who picked up The Times that day, including my friends, thought I'd died. They opened the page to look at the obituary. And I have had a letter from someone who said 'Are you still with us?' So very successful."
Directed by Bill Condon and loosely adapted from the Mitch Cullin novel "A Slight Trick of the Mind", "Mr. Holmes" follows an older Sherlock, determined to correct fictionalized accounts of the cases he solved.
As a reclusive retiree in Sussex, the only company he likes to keep is his housekeeper and her young son.
Playing the youngster, Milo Parker is thrilled to sharing a screen with "Gandalf."
"He taught me lots of things like little glances and hesitations, they all make a difference to put together a really good movie."
