Reporter: Gu Feng, a Yi ethnic minority singer, came into public attention in 2009, with a song 'Make a Mistake' or Fan Cuo (犯错) in Chinese, that he wrote and sang together with his wife Siqin Gaoli.
Gu Feng used to be fascinated by rock music, but turned the other way to perform heart wrenching songs with his unique style, under private tutelage of Hu Haiquan, a member of the mainland's famous pop duo Yu Quan.
His new album tells the musician's transformation and how these changes have brought ups and downs to his inner world, as the singer himself explains.
"I feel I'm very lucky. I've experienced hardships throughout my life. Now I'm undergoing changes that may lead to a better life. And my new album recorded all these experiences, and the listeners who migrated to live and work in Beijing might find an echo in their own feelings."
One of the songs in his album titled " Youth Is beautiful, because of A Bit Sadness" or Qing Chun Hen Mei Shi Yin Wei Dai Dian Shang. ("青春很美是因为带点伤") has not only captivated heart but has also caught the attention of industry insiders since it was released in early May.
In this song, the singer talks about the reality of being helpless in his teenage years when he had to leave his hometown. But the singer believes there is always a touch of sadness around the most beautiful things in life. And this song, which Gu Feng hopes, may help motivate his listeners to seek and realize their ideals.
His new album is an original work, with tunes and the lyrics of all the songs created by the singer himself. Meanwhile, Gu also plans to work as a music producer.
Gu Feng says he thinks music is an expression that speaks for his attitude towards life.
"My music is a way for me to express my understanding of the society we live in. In my opinion, some young listeners, irrespective of whether they are fans of pop music or not, are in need of songs that have positive strength to guide their souls."
Earlier in April, the singer also released another soft rock melody titled the Last Cigar or Zui Hou Yi Zhi Yan ("最后一支烟") in Chinese. This song also became an instant hit on the country's music charts.
And according to his agent manager Chang Mujie(常沐婕), the young singer and song writer plans to release more songs to capture the hearts of his listeners before his new album goes public.
