Fado is a music genre that can be traced to the 1820s in Lisbon, Portugal. It’s said that the music originates from the river along the city Tejo, where the public sings, with tears streaming down,as a form of seeing off the sailors that may never come back alive. Today fado is commonly regarded as simply a form of song which can be about anything, but must follow a certain traditional structure.
