Today is Mangzhong, the Grain in Ear. It is the 9th solar term of the year and the third one of summer. It falls on June 5, 6 or 7 each year.
Now, the field is very busy. Farmers need to harvest the wheat before the heavy rain, and plant rice at the same time.
The fifth lunar month is the month for litchi. Let’s have some fresh, sweet litchis!
During the Grain in Ear, the ancient Chinese would hold a farewell ceremony for the flower goddesses. People would thank them for bringing beautiful flowers in spring, and hope to see the flowers again next year.
