Never stop fighting

When Michele Threefoot was 8 years old, she dressed like her idol Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Supreme Court Justice (最高法院法官), on her school’s Superhero Day. The little Ginsburg photos went far and wide online, and Ginsburg finally reached out to Threefoot herself.
“Dear Michele, You look just like me! May you continue to thrive on reading and learning. Every good wish, Ruth Bader Ginsburg,” the note from the justice read.
Threefoot was in ecstasy on receiving the note from Ginsburg, who spent her whole career fighting to strike down laws that were unfair toward women.
Inspired by Ginsburg, Threefoot has done what she can to follow her idol. In 2018, Threefoot and her Girl Scout troop donated gifts to a gift drive for needy people. The drive was organized by the International Rescue Committee to help refugees rebuild their lives. Last Fourth of July, she joined parades in Columbia to celebrate Independence Day .
Sadly, Ginsburg died on Sept 18, 2020 at the age of 87. “It’s really sad, actually, because I didn’t really know she was sick until I heard that she had died,” Threefoot said. The now-12-year-old girl was shocked by her idol’s death.
To encourage more people to fight for their rights, Threefoot suggested declaring Sept 18, the day Ginsburg died, as Ruth Bader Ginsburg Day. “Just because she’s gone doesn’t mean that we can’t fight for ourselves and fight for equality ,” Threefoot said.
