英文原稿
Hollywood movies convey the fun of weightlessness. But science hints at the other side.
On journey to Mars, what space can do to a human body could be a huge problem.
In zero gravity, the rule of thumb is you lose one percent of your bone mass per month. And as fluid collects in the brain easily, it presses on the eyeballs. That’s why astronauts may have serious vision impairment.
As spacecraft is no longer protected by earth’s magnetic field during the journey to Mars, astronauts would be vulnerable to radiation from cosmic rays which are coming at nearly the speed of light and which can damage DNA and brain cells.
So that they may land on Mars with blurry eyes, brittle bones and become a little dimmer.
