Artificial intelligence allows machines to learn from data and mimic some of the things that humans can do.
A tech company has built an algorithm that could grade high-school essays. The grades given by machine are similar to the grades given by human teachers.
The company also had an algorithm written that can diagnose eye diseases by observing eye images. Machine can do that with an accuracy that matches human ophthalmologists.
A teacher might read 10,000 essays over a 40-year career. An ophthalmologist might see 50,000 eyes. A machine can read millions of essays or see millions of eyes within minutes.
We have no chance to compete against machines on frequent, high-volume tasks, except the work that needs to tackle novel situations.
For example: The copy behind a marketing campaign needs to grab consumers' attention. Business strategy needs to find gaps in the market. It will be humans to design marketing campaigns, and to develop business strategy.
