From my perspective, I agree with the statement that parents should be involved in the process of helping their children choosing the university.
First, parents know better about the overall information of universities. In spite of those brief introductions posted online such as ranking, acceptance rate, which are accessible to the kids, parents can offer more than that, for example, parents can gain more details about the university by working with the alumni, and these detailed information cannot be found only in those "hard statistics" mentioned above.
Moreover, entering university needs budget, which is usually not a small one. Obviously, parents are more aware of the financial condition of the family, and this makes them better decision-makers when it comes to finding balance between excellent university and affordable investment.
Although the students have every right and freedom to choose the university based on their own judgments, parents can always offer more rational advice which should be taken into account by students.
