小时候，没有人能阻止我去看水井，还有那旧式吊桶打水机和盘绕的井绳。我爱那深落的黑暗，那陷在井中的天空，那水草，真菌和潮湿苔藓的气味。一口砖厂中的井，腐朽的木板遮着头。我深深地回味那水桶在绞绳一端骤然坠入时浓厚的轰鸣。那么深的井，你看不见倒影。一口生在干枯水渠下的浅井，却像养鱼池一样有丰富的生命。当你从软软的覆盖物下拉出长长的根，一张苍白的脸在井底徘徊。其他的井都有回声，把你的呼唤传回伴着清新的乐音。有一口井令人害怕，那里的羊齿草和高高的指顶花中猛然蹿出一只老鼠践踏了我的倒影。如今，再去窥探根的深处，用手抓出泥泞如大眼睛的那西索斯，瞪视着泉水有损成人的尊严。所以我写诗为了凝视自己，为了让黑暗发出回声。Personal Heliconfor Michael LongleyAs a child, they could not keep me from wells And old pumps with buckets and windlasses. Foxgloves, a rat slapped across my reflection.
Now, to pry into roots, to finger slime,
