Remembrance is a form of meeting.

On my way to the Holy City I met another pilgrim and I asked him, "Is this indeed the way to the Holy City?"
在到圣城去的路上，我遇到另一位香客，我问他：“这条就是到圣城去的路吗？”
And he said, "Follow me, and you will reach the Holy City in a day and a night."
他说：“跟我来吧，再有一天一夜就到达圣城了。”
And I followed him. And we walked many days and many nights, yet we did not reach the Holy City.
我就跟随他。我们走了几天几夜，还没有走到圣城。
And what was to my surprise he became angry with me because he had misled me.
使我惊讶的是，他带错了路反而对我大发脾气。
One may not reach the dawn save by the path of the night.
除了通过黑夜的道路，人们不能到达黎明。
My house says to me, "Do not leave me, for here dwells your past."
我的房子对我说：“不要离开我，因为你的过去住在这里。”
And the road says to me, "Come and follow me, for I am your future."
道路对我说：“跟我来吧，因为我是你的将来。”
And I say to both my house and the road,
我对我的房子和道路说：
"I have no past, nor have I a future.
“我没有过去，也没有将来。
If I stay here, there is a going in my staying;
如果我住下来，我的住中就有去；
and if I go, there is a staying in my going.
如果我去，我的去中就有住。
Only love and death will change all things."

How can I lose faith in the justice of life, when the dreams of those who sleep upon feathers are not more beautiful than the dreams of those who sleep upon the earth?
当那些睡在绒毛上面的人所做的梦，并不比睡在土地上的人的梦更美好的时候，我怎能对生命的公平失掉信心呢？
《沙与沫》(Sand and Foam) 是纪伯伦的散文诗集，是纪伯伦最著名的作品之一，作者以自然景物"沙"、"泡沫"为比喻，寓意着人在社会之中如同沙之微小，事物如同泡沫一般的虚幻。
纪伯伦，1883年1月6日，出生在黎巴嫩，1931年逝世于美国纽约。在短暂而辉煌的生命之旅中，他颠沛流离、贫病交迫、终身未婚、英年早逝。这样历经磨难的天才，却将残酷的现实当圣殿、把爱与美当信仰、深情地为生命献上一朵玫瑰。
他是阿拉伯文学的主要奠基人，其主要作品有《泪与笑》《先知》《沙与沫》等，蕴含了丰富的社会性和东方精神，不以情节为重，旨在抒发丰富的情感。他的文字总能带给人以灵感和哲思。
纪伯伦作为哲理诗人和杰出的画家，他和泰戈尔一样都是近代东方文学走向世界的先驱，“站在东西方文化桥梁上的巨人”。
