unwed 未婚的 /ʌnwed/
wed这个的单词是动词结婚的意思，前面加上否定词缀un， unwed就是表示未婚的。
Born to an unwed mother, she had a difficult childhood.
生于未婚母亲，她的童年很艰难。
The young, unwed lady is going to have a baby this winter.
这位年轻的未婚女士今年冬天要生孩子了。
illegitimate child 私生子
legitimate是正当的 合法的意思，前面加上否定词缀 illegitimate 就是表示不法的意思， illegitimate child也就是表示私生子 a child born outside marriage
Was she the mother of his illegitimate children?
她是他私生子的母亲吗？
They discovered he had an illegitimate child.
他们发现他有一个私生子。
beauty pageant 选美比赛 /ˈpædʒənt/
我们要注意pageant这个单词的发音，第一个音节的字母a不发/ei/的音，所以不要读成了
/'peidʒənt/, 正确的发音是发梅花音/æ/的音，读成 /ˈpædʒənt/
