I found a good spot on the side of a hill.Here I put up a big tent.I put two rows of heavy posts into the ground around the tent.
猎食
Every day I went out with my gun.I wanted to see if there was anything I could hunt for food.I found that there were goats on my island.But they ran so fast that they were hard to shoot. One day I kill the mother goat.She had a little kid next to her.It made me sad to kill her.I carried the mother goat home and the kid followed me.I wanted to tame the kid, but it would not eat anything.I had to kill it, too. These two goats gave me enough meat for a long time.
感恩
Then I felt lucky.I was alive.I had a place to live.I had guns and gunpowder.I had tools to work with.
好与歹的对比
One day I sat down with a pen and paper.I had taken them from the boat.I began to write the bad and good things about being on the island.
1. I am on an island.No one will ever find me. But I am alive.The other man were all killed.
2. I am alone.I have no one to talk to, or be with. But I am not hungry. I can find food here.
3. I could not hold out long if savage men or animals come after me.But I am on an island where I can see nothing to hurt me.
改善生活
First.I would make a table and a chair.I did not know anything about tools or building things.But soon I found that I could make anything I needed.As I said, I had lots of time, I liked making things.
I dug a cave in the rocks behind my tent.Then I put boards up along one side of the cave.I kept all my tools and nails on them. I banged sticks into the other side of the cave.These were to hold my guns and other things.
After some time, I had everything in its right place.
写日记
Then I began to write in a book about each of my days.I give some of it here to show what my days were like.
November 27. Killed a small goat and hurt another in the leg.I caught the one that was hurt.I took care of her until she was better.Soon she became very tame.After a while, she would not go away. So I thought about trying to keep my own goals.This way I will have food even after my gunpowder is all gone.
