What is Renaissance?
Renaissance is a French word which means rebirth.
A rebirth is a new beginning
Between the 14th and 17th centuries some really creative
things started happening in Europe
especially in drawing sculpture painting, architecture and science.
During the 1300s Europe rose out of the
Dark Ages. The black death was a disease
which wiped out a lot of the population.
Italy was perfectly situated between
East and West for overseas trade.
The country was made up of independent city-states the city of Florence was ruled by a family
of bankers. They used their vast wealth to sponsor the arts and sciences
The Renaissance emphasized new learning and artistic expressions and the rediscovery of knowledge and perspective from ancient Greece and Rome.
Italian city states such as Venice, Milan , Pisa, and especially Florence were the center of many Renaissance developments.
Renaissance were humanism and individualism.
Humanism refers to the reading and understanding of writings and ideals of ancient Greece and Rome.
Renaissance scholars observed that because ancient Greece and Rome were pre-christian, they were not God centered but people centered.
That's the essence of humanism.
Individualism refers to the emphasis on individual expression, individual value and individual action as opposed to emphasizing group or community behavior.
Scientists began to carry out experiments for the first time. They made important discoveries about space, science and medicine.
