比如你在别人家看到一幅画，想摸一下：
A: Please don't touch that. 不要碰哦。
B: I'm sorry. I was just admiring your painting. 对不起，我刚才就是在欣赏你的油画。
再比如，你和朋友聊天时走神了：
A: Are you listening? 你在听吗？
B: I'm sorry. I was just thinking of something else. 对不起，我刚才在想别的事儿。
Toby的道歉句式虽然不错，但是态度有点“没溜儿”，所以赶紧解释：
And which is totally inappropriate. 这当然是完全不合适的。
Totally inappropriate 完全的不合适，不恰当
这是一个比较正式、严肃的道歉，比如你说的话伤害到了一个人：
I shouldn't have said that. That was totally inappropriate. Please forgive me. 我不应该这么说，这个特别不合适，原谅我吧。
这个表达也可以形容一个举动不合适，不恰当：
I can't believe I yelled at him like that. Totally inappropriate. I don't know what I was thinking. 真不敢相信我就那样朝他大喊大叫，真是太不合适了，我都不知道当时我在想什么？
由于大家还未原谅他，所以Toby继续说：
I apologize. 我道歉。
I apologize for/if... 我为…道歉。
这是一个非常严肃正经的道歉。比如：
I apologize if I have offended you. That was not my intention at all. 如果我冒犯到你了，我道歉。我不是这个意思。
再拿小意本人来说，又干了一件傻事，赶紧和朋友道歉：
That was an incredibly stupid thing I did. I apologize for the way I acted. 我做得这个事太傻了，我为我的行为道歉。
Toby继续着他的道歉：
I'm way fatter than you if it means anything. 我比你胖多了，如果这样说能让你好受些的话。
…if it means anything 如果…能让你好受一点的话
这也是一种道歉的方式：
I feel really bad about how I treated you if it means anything. I can't even sleep. 如果能让你好过点儿，我对你的方式让我感觉糟透了。我晚上都不睡不着觉。
如果你和朋友出去玩，回家晚了，男朋友很生气，要怎么办呢：
