What's That Sound?
Eeyore loves warm, lazy days. He is ready for a nap. Suddenly, Eeyore hears a loud noise.
"WHOO," says the noise.
Eeyore answers,"Who? It's me, Eeyore. Who are you?"
"WHOO," it says again.
"I can't sleep here," Eeyore says. "It's too noisy."
Eeyore looks for his friends. He finds Winnie the Pooh. He tells Winnie about the WHOO noise.
"Who's saying WHOO?" Eeyore asks.
"I don't hear anything," Winnie says. "Let's look somewhere else."
Soon, the two friends see Piglet.
"We're listening for the WHOO noise," Winnie says.
Then Eeyore hears a CHIRP. "It's the two birds in the tree,"Piglet says.
"What are they saying?" Eeyore asks.
"It's a tall tree," Piglet says. "Maybe they're talking bout building a nest there."
The friends go to Rabbit's house. But Rabbit is busy. He hears a SQUEAK.
They find a family of mice in his house. SQUEAK, SQUEAK, SQUEAK, the mice say.
"What are they saying?" asks Eeyore.
Rabbit is mad. "Maybe they're saying they like my corn," says Rabbit. "They want to eat all my food!"
Tigger jumps by Rabbit's house. "HOO-HOO-HOO!" he says.
But his noise is not the same as WHOO.
Next the friends go to the pond. Eeyore hears another noise. Two frogs say RIBBIT.
Then Piglet hears CHATTER, CHATTER, CHATTER. Three squirrels run up and down a tree.
"I wonder what they're saying," Piglet says.
"Let's ask Owl," Winnie says. "He knows everything."
The friends walk to Owl's house.
"Hello, Owl," says Eeyore."We hear animals making different sounds."
"That's right," says Owl."Different animals use different sounds to talk to each other."
"We don't understand what some animals say," Owl says,"But we can watch what they do. See this bee? She's showing her friends where the flowers are."
Suddenly, Owl is tired. He decides to stop for a rest.
Eeyore hears the noise again. WHOO, WHOO, WHOO!
Eeyore follows the noise to a tree. He looks up. It's Owl! He is snoring. When he opens his mouth, he says WHOO.
Just then, Owl wakes up. "What is it?" he asks.
"Nothing," Winnie laughs."It's just the WHOO noise again."
"Do you know who says WHOO?" Owl asks.
"Yes!" Eeyore says. "It's you!"
Everybody is ready to go home. But first, they listen to all the animal sounds. They CHIRP and CHATTER and RIBBIT and SQUEAK. Now it's all music to Eeyore's ears.
