Would you try this “foot-flavored” rice dumpling?
Some merchants go to extreme lengths to win customers, but a stall in Taiwan may have outdone its peers - by unveiling a “foot-flavored” rice dumpling.
“Smelly Foot Zongzi” is stuffed with a special ingredient – stinky tofu, a traditional street snack in China. And the stinky flavor isn’t the only thing which sets this Zongzi apart. It is also shaped like a “golden lotus”, the extremely small foot that some ancient Chinese women developed as a result of foot binding.
The stall in Taipei’s Nanmen Market released the “Smelly Foot Zongzi”, along with 99 other kinds of rice dumplings, to attract customers ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival. The festival, which falls annually on May 5 on the lunar calendar, is traditionally celebrated by people eating sweet or salty Zongzi. It is the first time that a stinky dumpling has been on sale at the Zongzi market.
The stinky Zongzi was frowned upon by some, but others with a more open attitude said they would try it. What’s your take?
