Play
Use “play” for team sports / sports with a ball
He plays golf every Saturday.
We are going to play badminton together tomorrow.
Use “play” for sports where you need an opponent
The weather is nice today, let’s go outside and play volleyball.
They played Ping-Pong last weekend.
Also use “play” for board games and other games.
My dad plays poker with his friends every week.
I don’t want to play chess, it’s too boring.
Go
Use “go” for sports that are verbs in gerund form (动词+ing). These are also sports that you need to go outside or to a special place to do.
Don’t go jogging today, it’s too cold outside.
I’m going to go swimming with my friends. See you later!
We went biking in Italy last year.
Do
Use “do” for sports that are leisure or exercise activities and can be done inside
My mom is doing yoga right now. She will be back later.
Your grandfather does tai chi every day, no wonder he’s so healthy!
She does gymnastics for two hours every morning.
