So today we're going to continue with Section 9
Modifiers with participles and prepositions
So what is the difference here?
Who is Raoul ... we answer with "He's the man."
Which one is Raoul ... we answer with "He's the one."
Next one is plural... for a group of people...
So let's read number 1 together
Everyone has a different idea.
The first part of the sentence doesn't change very much...
The second part of the sentence can either start with "verb +ing" (participle) or "in/on/at/next to" (preposition)
Let's start with a very simple example
I'm tell you about my friends
Gregg is the tall one. He lives in Texas.
Gregg is the tall one living in Texas.
Max is a funny. He lives in New York.
Max is the funny one living in New York.
So when do we use this grammar?
We use this grammar when we have a group of people...
And we want to identify one person in that group.
For example, at a party ..
Who is Bill?
Bill the man wearing a purple shirt and red shoes.
Who is Jessica?
Jessica is the small girl with the big glasses.
Bill is the man wearing a purple shirt and red shoes.
Which one is Frank?
Frank is the big, stupid one in the corner.
So let's talk about this class...
Who is Charlie?
Who is Penny?
Penny is the funny one that takes business trips a lot.
Which one is Alisa?
"Alisa is the cute one who likes to talk."
And Annie..
Is the one with great spirit that studies hard.
Annie is the woman from Puyang.
Annie is the one from Puyang.
If you can see the person, then use "ing"
Because you know what they'd doing.
If we were in a classroom, this would be a little easier
That's about all the time we have for today
The homework is to do the reading section
